R.I.F.
Reading is Fundamental. This was a program that we had in school growing up. Now there are many more acronyms used like DEAR....drop everything and read, but the concept is the same. Reading is encouraged. Well, I have never been a big reader. I enjoy magazines, and books that are self help themes, or non-fiction. I have always had the attitude that I need to have advanced my education, or have become a better person from what I read. I have participated in many Bible studies and book clubs of that nature. Again there was a purpose and I improved my understandings of a particular subject. I always found it a waste of time to sit and read a novel that was fiction....I guess I am a realist to a fault. My hubby is a big reader....as many of you have noticed from our "library" collection. I am thrilled that my kids are big readers as well. There are times when we have to tell them to put the books down and join the family. I have always envied that ability to just relax, kick back and absorb oneself in a good book. So this summer I vowed to commit to getting through at least one good summer read that was for pure enjoyment. I wouldn't need to take a quiz over the info, I wouldn't necessarily advanced my knowledge on a certain subject, I would simply read for the pure enjoyment of it. Well I am happy to report that I am starting book #3 for the summer. Yes folks that's right 2 books completed and it is the beginning of July. I have found myself in a hurry up and wait mode this summer with taking kids to activities. So instead of dropping them and heading home for a mere 30-40 min. I decided to just stay put and wait and pick up a book and read. It has been a liberating experience for me. So far my reads include: The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs (Thanks Jana for sharing this one) and I picked up my Danielle Steele, Sisters, that I purchased last summer and only made it to chapt. 3. Wrapped that one up last night while waiting for Jaydin at dance. Now I am starting another Kate Jacobs book called Comfort Food. So here's to happy reading for no other purpose than pure enjoyment!

Yay! Good for you! I'll have to look for that Comfort Food one. I'm like you...I don't read much fiction...I want facts, enhancing my knowledge and let me think...but it's nice to sink away in someone's creation and imagination....I just read somewhere that if you exerience anxiety, get yourself in a book for a good 10 min. and it should help reduce it...because your mind is on something else! Read on Sista!
