I was the recipient of a "pay it forward" on Thursday evening. It had been our normal crazy Thursday, filled with activities and trying to squeeze in something to eat in between stops and drop offs, etc. I pulled through Wendy's and ordered our meal and when I got up to the window to pay the employee told me that my meal had been paid for by the person ahead of me in the drive through. I took a closer look to see if I knew them, and I didn't. The employee then shared with me that the person in the vehicle had recently been a recipient of a "pay if forward" and wanted to continue the random act of kindness. It was really a cool feeling; especially after the week I had gone through. So I thanked the Lord with a little flash prayer of blessing for the stranger in the vehicle ahead of me. Since then I have been pondering how I was going to "pay it forward". It has been 2 days and I am still sitting on this "pay it forward"; not surprising to some of you that know that I am analytical and want to make sure I don't just aimlessly react, but rather make sure I seek out the best opportunity and that what I do will make an impact on someone. My first thought was to pay for groceries for the person in line behind me, I also thought about the food banks, Haiti needs, prescriptions for the elderly, etc. There are so many opportunities out there that it is hard to pick just one, and then it occurred to me that this would be a fun activity for my middle school, Sunday school kids to be involved in. I have decided to give them each $5 and tell them to take it and use it to do a "pay it forward" sometime this week and report back next Sunday on what they did. This way I hope to impact the lives of 12 other people vs just one. Can't wait to hear the results.
BTW...if you haven't seen the movie called Pay it Forward, I would recommend the rental. It is good!
