As I turned up the volume on my headset as loud as possible I could still hear this retching sound on Monday morning. "You'll feel some pressure" the dentist says. Which we all know means it's going to hurt like you know what. Then the sound of the drill....seriously with today's technology can we not invent one that is silent? 30 min. later the tooth was out and the hygienist regrets having to tell me that in the process of drilling the dentist broke the filling in the tooth in front of the one being pulled. So I would need to set up an apt. in 2 weeks to get that filling replaced and fixed. I left shaking like a leaf holding the tears back until Rob got me in the car. Now I have to admit that when it comes to the dentist, I have never been a fan. I get great anxiety whenever I have to go.
It just so happened that the weekend before we left for vacation this summer I had a tooth break. I went in and they took a look and put a temp fix on it so that I could go on vacation without the throbbing pain. The diagnosis was that I needed to get a root canal and also have a post put in and a crown to repair the damage....estimated cost=$800 out of pocket after insurance paid. Alternative...have the tooth extracted for ~$40. Well seemed like a no brainer to me.
So now I sit...looking like a chipmunk praying that the pain will subside in a day or two. Warm salt water and ice packs are part of my hourly rituals. Jello and broth make up my meals. On the upside...I have finished another book and taken in a couple movie rentals. I am getting great sympathy from my family and have even been the recipient of a foot and back rub. Maybe it was all worth it. I'll let you know in a few weeks. :-)
