Making Memories...Memorial Weekend

Our traditional camping trip takes us to Decorah, Ia to the Pulpit Rock Campground. Those in attendance this year were: Grandma & Grandpa Mehmen, Aunt Debbie and Uncle Paul, Amanda & Henry & kids, and us. Bryan, Angie and Austin joined us friday night for supper and smore's. Our trip began with our arrival in the rain...it seemed to clear off just long enough for us to get our tents set up after supper. Saturday morning brought another round of showers/downpour. By noon it cleared up and the sun came out and dried things up. It has been sunshine and cool breeze the rest of the time. Below are some snapshots of us taking in some of the traditional activities of the weekend. Rob and Jaydin return from the fishing hole where her and grandpa caught the big one last summer. Jaydin caught a keeper and had it for supper.

Jeremey congratulates Aunt Debbie after she "hustles" him in a game of Bocce' Ball. It started in the morning with a game of Rummy 500 in cards where aunt Debbie "claimed" she hadn't played in a long time and would need a refresher and then took him to the cleaners. She made the same claim when he asked her to play Bocce' and sure enough she won. He vowed to not play with her anymore.

The crowd looks one as Debbie takes on her next opponent....

And once again, she takes Rob to the cleaners and wins round 2 of Bocce'. No one else was brave enough to take her on after that.

Ah...the blessings of having a boyscout. Jeremey fixes us his famous apple cobbler. We enjoyed with a bowl of ice cream. Yum Yum!

The Burley's battle it out on the badminton course. Dad and Jaydin won 15 to 12 over Mom and Jeremey.

Grandma and Grandpa enjoying the weekend.

The master campfire chef, hooking us up with cheddar brats for lunch.
Despite the rain, and the loud screaming kids at 10pm tripping over the strings of our tents as they cut through the campsite, and the snoring (we won't say who), it turned out to be a great weekend. It was nice to kick back and relax and take in the great outdoors. Now back to the real world and the hustle and bustle of daily life.
